'The Hobbit' Really Might Be Delayed This Time

We've been enjoying rumors about The Hobbit for about two years now with no signs of letting up. We've heard it all -- from who is or isn't cast as Bilbo Baggins or Smaug, to whether it'll be in 3D, and if it'll be two films of purely Hobbit-drawn material or if it'll delve into the Tolkien appendices, it goes on and and on. And that's not even counting the year or so that Peter Jackson was out of favor with New Line. It's enough to make you climb into a hobbit hole and have your second breakfast. Now Variety reports that despite the assurances of Guillermo Del Toro and Jackson, The Hobbit release may actually be delayed from December 2011 to late 2012, as previously reported. While discussing Warner Bros' plans for New Line, WB studio leader Alan Horn is predicting that The Hobbit will be released in "the fourth quarter of 2012," though he declined to give any further details.
While Jackson assures everyone the project is on track, I find it hard to believe they can make that 2011 release date, even if they are holding open casting calls. As of last month, MGM still hadn't officially green-lit the film, and they were still on the second draft of the script. I'm not going to lose faith that we'll have an 2011 trip to Middle Earth -- but I'm not going to hold my breath, either. Remember, it was originally given a release date of 2010!

If Jackson actually does this, it will be excellent.....just as the preceding trilogy was....his adaptation'appearance of characters was as close to what I had imagined in my mind as I I could have ever hoped for....the man is an absolute genius!

The book ends on a note regarding prophesy. 12/21/12 might be a good date for the Hobbit to step forward. We would like for the road to go ever on and on, and sincerely hope that there are humans left after the above date to view the final product.

Jackson will ruin The Hobbit just like Lord of the Rings. Del Toro is even worse. Look at what he did to Hellboy 2. The both of them should consider sticking to the damn book for once instead of changing stuff as they please. Better yet! Hey, Jackson, it's quite obvious you never read the books so maybe you should start taking that fact into consideration before you alienate any more fans.

Oh, don't be a damn idiot. Jackson did great with the first three--too well, in fact. They're almost too long to sit through because he followed the books so much. Get over yourself and keep your negativity up your ass where it belongs.

geez. How many movies based on books never came close to the actual story? TONS. Lord of the Rings did a fantastic job of fitting in as much as it could and remaining true to the book. I hope you're being sarcastic, because Jackson did a remarkable job and I have complete faith he will do it again with the Hobbit.

Have to agree with Theo. Jackson poured over those novels in preperation for shooting the films, even having story conferences on set. A quick look at any of the 'behind the scenes' shorts will show this, not to mention the web-only content. The films are a masterwork, and you clearly do not know what you're saying, Leila. Also, a look at Pan's Labyrinth would show Del Toro is the perfect choice to direct this. HIs work in the Hellboy films is amazing, frightening and beautiful all at once.
Hide in the hole, troll. And be quiet.

Anybody who said Jackson ruined LOTR is so far up their own ideologies you can smell fecal matter burning. Give me a break, Jackson did an outstanding job converting a huge piece of literary work into a visual medium. Something that was deemed impossible by many directors. Do you know how hard that is? I sure don't, so I'm glad he had the balls to do it. Millions of fans of the book loved the film, including myself and I grew up on the hobbit. Nothing is perfect, no adaptation is ever perfect, but you look Jackson and the hundred of people working their guts out to make the best film they could and say, you ruined it. If you did you would be the most ignorant and heartless person ever to walk the earth. Now I know you wouldn't do that in person, but because you got internet courage you can go against what was a creative attempt of a master work freely. Bravo, you have just explored the realms of ignorance.
There is always going to be a group of people so used to over analyzing everything they ruin any attempt of expression. Get over yourself.

I hope he doesn't miscast anyone like he miscast Galadriel and Arwen Evenstar. They were blots on his otherwise great films.

This film has just been a complete mess so far, I really hope they don't let this delay mess with the screenwriting process anymore than it already has.
